Liverpool went off to a fine beginning as John Arne Riise netted in a goal in the first sixty seconds of the league cup final. However after vast amounts of pressure, Chelsea leveled through a Steven Gerrard own goal. Chelsea came near to victory in the ninty minutes as Didier Drogba wasted a chance late on in the ninty minutes. In extra time, Didier Drogba scored from near range and Kezman secured victory by making it 3-1. With only seconds of the extra time remaining, Antonio Nunez scored what proved to be a consolation goal for the Reds. Chelsea was the deserved Champions of the 2005 Carling Cup (League Cup) final.
