Bobby Campbell was manager of the blues during the 1990 -91 campaign and the blues faired well in their second year back in the top flight. They finished the season off in a respectable 11th position. New record signing, Dennis Wise, who signed from Wimbledon for £1.6 million, was in great form for the blues. They enjoyed a fine run in the league cup that saw them reach the semi finals of the competition, however they were unable to defeat eventual winners, Sheffield Wednesday in the last four. Many players were in good form for the blues, including Gordon Durie, Kerry Dixon, Steve Clarke, Tony Dorigo, Kevin McAllister and Ken Monkou.
The Blues were far from their best during the 1991 -92 season as they finished the campaign off in 14th position. Craig Burley and Frank Sinclair made their debuts for the club. They enjoyed a fairly decent run in the FA Cup, reaching the quarter finals, facing Sunderland in the last eight; however they lost to the eventual finalists 2-1.
The Blues improved their league form slightly the following season as they finished it off in 11th place. They reached the quarter finals of the League Cup (Coca Cola Cup); however they were unable to overcome Crystal Palace, who beat the Blue 3-1 in the last eight. John Spencer and Nigel Spackman signed for Chelsea F.C at the start of the seasons.
The 1993 -1994 league season saw the arrival of new player manager, Glenn Hoddle at the club. The blues finished the season off in 14th position. Hoddle guided the Blues to the final of the FA Cup; however in what had proven to be a forgettable afternoon with Chelsea fans, they lost the match 4-0.
