Chelsea 3-2 Sunderland
Date Played – 8th September 1990

The match started off at a frantic pace as David Lee swept the ball up field to Dennis Wise who passed the ball to Kerry Dixon who scored to make it 1-0 to the Blues. With ten minutes of the first half remaining, Sunderland swung over a corner from the left and Marco Gabbiadini scored with a superbly struck volley into the top corner of the net.
Chelsea regained the lead three minutes before half time as Dennis Wise beat two defenders and found Kevin Wilson who fired the ball into the net to make it 2-1.
Ten minutes into the second half, Gary Bennet found Peter Davenport on the left and he put Kieron Brady through on to goal. As Dave Beasent came out of his goal, Brady rounded the goal keeper and smashed the ball into the net. With fifteen minutes remaining, Chelsea settled the match when Bennet sent Wilson sprawling into the penalty box and a penalty was awarded which Dennis Wise converted to make it 3-2 to Chelsea.

Date Played – 25th November 1990

Chelsea started the match off the better side as Gordon Durie put the blues 1-0 in front heading the ball past Les Sealey. Twenty minutes into the match, Andy Townsend scored a fantastic individual goal to make it 2-0 to the blues. Five minutes later, Neil Webb took a corner kick and Gary pallister climbed high to head it and it was met by Danny Wallace who made it 2-1.
In the 72nd minute of the match, United breached the Chelsea back line as Danny Wallace broke clear on the right. His accurate centre over Dave Beasent was headed home from point blank range by Mark Hughes to make it 2-2. With ten minutes remaining, Kevin Wilson put Graham Stuart through and Neil Webb challenged him in the box and Chelsea were awarded a penalty. Dennis Wise converted to win the tie for the Blues making it 3-2.

United eventually won the 1990 FA Cup final, however here is how they arrived to the replay. After 20 minutes of play, Gary O’Reilly scores the opening vital goal for Palace as he beats both Steve Bruce and Jim Leighton to make it 1-0 to Palace. With only 10 minutes of the half remaining, Danny Wallace played the ball out to Brain McClair on the right; his first time centre to the far post is headed down by Bryan Robson. Palace then went on to concede as unlucky goal, as Neil Webb slid a fine pass to Mark Hughes who scored and gave United a 2-1 lead. With only 17 minutes remaining, Ian Wright scored one of the greatest FA Cup goals of all time to sail Palace back on level terms. Immediately into extra time, John Solako crossed a fine ball to Ian Wright who volleyed Crystal Palace back into the lead. However with character, united came back, and with seven minutes remaining, Danny Wallace slipped a neat ball through to Hughes who ran left to right into the penalty area, Hughes smashed the ball into the back of the net, to force the final to a replay, which United won 1-0.
